Leading the fight to treat and cure Rett syndrome.

Project Overview

The International Rett Syndrome Foundation is the leading research, family support, and advocacy organization for Rett syndrome — a rare and devastating neurodevelopmental disorder caused by a spontaneous variant in the MECP2 gene, affecting approximately 1 in 10,000 births. IRSF funds trailblazing research, empowers families from diagnosis through every stage of life, and advocates relentlessly for policies and funding that move the community forward.

With a mission this wide — serving newly diagnosed families, researchers, healthcare providers, and industry partners simultaneously — their website had to do serious work. It needed to be a resource hub, a fundraising engine, a clinical trial gateway, a community anchor, and a trusted source of medical information, all without overwhelming the parent who just received the most frightening news of their life.

We partnered with IRSF to design and develop a site worthy of that responsibility.

IRSF Support with Intention

USER EXPERIENCE DESIGN

Support with Intention

We designed clear, audience-specific pathways so families, researchers, providers, and partners each reach what they need without friction. For a newly diagnosed family in a stressful moment, that clarity matters deeply. Every flow was structured to reduce overwhelm and lead visitors gently to the right resource.

USER INTERFACE DESIGN

Compassion and Care in Every Detail

The interface pairs a warm, hopeful visual language with the credibility a leading research organization requires. Thoughtful typography, imagery, and color create an experience that feels caring rather than clinical. The design honors the gravity of the mission while keeping hope front and center.

A Platform for Progress

We built a robust, accessible platform capable of housing deep research libraries, family resources, news, and event information. The site is easy for the IRSF team to update as research advances and programs evolve. Accessibility and performance were priorities throughout, ensuring the site serves every visitor well.

Testimonial

Canned Spinach brought both the technical expertise and the sensitivity this project required. They understood that our website isn't just a marketing tool — it's often the first place a family turns after a diagnosis. The result reflects exactly who we are: rigorous, compassionate, and completely committed to the Rett community."

End Result

IRSF launched with a site as ambitious as its mission. Families can find support from the moment of diagnosis. Researchers can access funding opportunities, publications, and the world's largest Rett Syndrome Natural History database. Healthcare providers can locate clinics, CME resources, and care guidelines. And donors can give with confidence, knowing more than 80 cents of every dollar goes directly to the mission.

With the first FDA-approved treatment for Rett syndrome now available and multiple gene therapy trials actively enrolling, the stakes for this community have never been higher — and IRSF now has a digital presence ready to meet the moment.
